after an extremely long day, Milan was finally ready to go home. Things hadn't been at all good, and she was finally ready to end the night with a usual relaxing hot bathe and then curled up in bed, watching the usual nighttime show operahs she liked to watch. However, once she got off of work and was walking away she thought of Ryan. The two still hadn't seen each other since two years ago, and ever since she was little she went to his place whenever something was bothering her. Until senior year, but he was always understanding. It would be good to be around him again and not worry about him judging her. Milan felt awful about the gossip blog and knew she should explain things to him. Maybe, just maybe he would still be the one person that wouldn't hate her, if he did, she didn't know what she would do. But it wasn't too late to try fix things with him. If she couldn't be his girlfriend, then she could settle for best friends, for now... Millie knew that her feelings for him would never go away but she couldn't really spring them on him then, tonight wouldn't be about that, even though Brynne sort of now knew.
Millie winced at the thought of brynne. This was not how things were supposed to go, and she knew her friend probably had to be going through a hard time right now, but time and space was needed away from her to work things out, eventually she might see the truth for herself.
She finally reached Ryans apartment building and went up to the doorstep, feeling a little unsure. After all, she didn't know what all had changed, so she should excpect just about anything. As she stood at the door uncertainly, the old doorman, Fredrick came up to him and smiled through the door as he instantly recognized her. Millie couldn't help but grin at him. Fredrick knew who she was, and she never had a problem gaining an enterence into Ryan's building because the doorman loved her. "Why it's Milan Nicole Prescott, back in the little town of Manhattan again! I've been seeing pictures of you everywhere, and people never believed me when I said I knew you!" Milan chuckled at this and took out her phone camera, knowing that this problem could easily be fixed. She didn't mind doing stuff like this for certain people, and Fredrick was one of her favorite people in the world, she had won him over a long time ago. "It can easily be proven and fixed," she assured him, and flipped open her phone to the picture display settings and wrapped an arm around him and smiled as they leaned into each other and clicked the camera button and sent it to his cell phone as she smiled down at it. "I can write an autograph that says to fredrick, you are the best doorman of all manhattan, all my love, Milan," she teased lightly, though he just beamed at this suggestion, which confirmed Milan's answer. "Thank you for letting me in, I'll give it to you later, I'm hoping I'll catch Ryan for a few." She winked at him as she walked away into the elevator and automatically hit the floor button to go up to his apartment. She really hoped he would be there, and that Callie wouldn't be. Her being there might make things a little complicated, but maybe she wouldn't be.
Milan finally made her way to his apartment doorstep and knocked on his door, feeling a bit nervous. A frown appeared when nobody came, so she pressed her ear to the door. It sounded like nobody was even there, so she turned to leave. She paused before she looked up at the light fixture and reached in, feeling around for a key. She remembered that that was where he hid his in case he ever locked himself as he sometimes did. The gang had been over at his apartment many times when that happened to know where it was. "Bingo," she murmured, smiling as she found the key, shaking her head as she was amused. Ryan was easily predictable, change with him was very rare. They called him st. dawson though she didn't really see him as one since in the past she did know otherwise.
Milan used the key to unlock the apartment door and walked in, again not expecting anything because of change. She flicked on a light as she closed the door and looked around. Apartment wise he appeared to be the same old Ryan. Milan smiled as she continued looking around, and saw that somebody else was obviously living there too. A positive note it looked like none of the stuff would've been Callie's. She wandered into his room and gazed around and felt slightly stalkerish. She hadn't been there for two years after all and then she was suddenly in his apartment without him? Where was he? She really wanted to see him again.
As she wandered over to his bookshelf, she dialed the number she still knew by heart and hoped that it was still his. After all, Brynne's and Harrisons had changed when she called them last. She fingered the back end of Mice and Men by steinback, frowning at the book. The two had to read the book back during an english class, and Milan liked most books, but there were loads of times the book just tortured her to no end and she spent a lot of time with Ryan to get through it, though she fell asleep on it countless times. Without him though she would never had been able to get through it. Her heart instantly warmed when Ryan answered the phone at the last ring and a bright smile appeared.
"Hey you," she greeted easily, pulling the book out of its place and gazing at it. "I was wondering if you still had that Steinback book, Of Mice and Men? I was wondering if you could lend it to me tonight, if you still had it?" She held her breath as she walked over towards the bed with the book in her hand and placed it in her lap while waiting for his answer.

ryan stepped out of the shower, grabbing a towel off the rack. this was the first break he had taken from writing all day. with the way things had been, ry distanced himself from it all and took the time to write, or rather attempt to write more to his book. this was the first time he had actually written stuff he intended on actually keeping for a few years now. up until lately, everything he had written had managed to end up in the waste bin next to his desk. with everything going on, throwing himself into his writing was the only way he knew how to deal.
a sigh fell from his mouth as he finished drying off, pulling on a pair of boxers and then a pair of flannel pajama bottoms. he stared blankly at the fogged up mirror a moment before wiping off the condensation. he then picked up the towel and dried his hair with it as much as he could before tossing it over the other towel rack. his phone, which lay next to the sink, began to buzz. he looked at it a moment before grabbing it, not recognizing the number. "hello?" he said into the phone. a very familiar voice answered, hey you. it was milan. he smiled lightly at her voice. he hadn't heard her voice in so long. yeah, she was back, but he hadn't gotten to see her or even hear her. they had spoken online a few times, but with all her drama going on and the rumors the mad hatter had spread about the two, he distanced himself. he didn't want callie believing the gossip blog, and he respected the fact that she didn't like milan very much. he wasn't going to let callie tell him who he could and couldn't be friends with, but he didn't want her to feel bad about him being around milan. truthfully, he didn't really want to tempt himself with milan being around either.
"hey mil.." he said into his phone, trailing off. to be honest, he was a little surprised she even had his phone number still. i was wondering if you still had that steinback book, of mice and men? i was wondering if you could lend it to me tonight, if you still had it? he raised his eyebrows curiously at this, even though she couldn't see his expression through the phone. he could have sworn she absolutely hated that book, not to mention it was a rather random request from her. this was the first time they had actually talked in, well, two years. he had thought about how a conversation would go between them if they were to speak, and this was not really how he had imagined it. "um, yeah.. yeah i still have that book." he said after a moment. "gimme a minute, i need to go find it..." he opened the bathroom door, walking out into the hallway.
he rubbed at his eyes, holding his phone to his ear with his shoulder as he wandered into his room. he went directly to the bookshelf, which was next to the door. he returned to holding his phone with his hand as he turned his head slightly to the side trying to read the book titles on the shelf. he had his bookshelf organized by author, but for some reason the book he was looking for was missing. a puzzled look crossed his face as he looked over the other steinbeck books that were there, and the slot where a book was missing. "actually mil, it's seemed to have gone miss-" he cut himself off mid sentence. he had turned himself around while he was talking, thinking that maybe he should look at the pile of books over near his bed, but instead of seeing his normal empty room, he saw milan.
he stood there a moment, staring at her in silence. she was the same milan that left two years ago. she was the same, but somehow different. she was gorgeous as ever. she was breathtaking as she had always been. as much as he loved the fact that she had surprised him by showing up, he wished he could have had a little time to straighten up. standing there with just pajama bottoms and messy hair was not exactly the ryan he had wanted her to see. his room was rather messy too. his bed wasn't made, there were books and papers on the floor. sure she had seen it like this before, but he wanted to look perfect for her. it was one of the effects milan had on him. "you know, i always knew you were a creeper." ryan said jokingly. a large grin grew on his face as he stepped towards her, pulling her into a hug.
"you have no idea how much i've missed you." he said as he hugged her tightly. you would think he would be more concerned with how milan got into his apartment in the first place, or maybe even angry at her for all the drama that had been going on since she had come back. he wasn't. he was a little surprised by what the mad hatter had spilled, but he wasn't upset. he didn't have a right to be upset. to be honest, he wasn't really sure why brynne had been so upset with harry over what had happened, as they had kind of done the exact same thing. ryan had always been kind of understanding with things like this, especially when it had to do with milan. he wasn't sure he had ever really been angry at her. as for sneaking into his apartment, he was rather amused. he knew well that millie had always gotten along well with fredrick the doorman. of all of the people ryan had over throughout the years, milan was definitely fredrick's favorite. besides, ryan was predictable and he was very aware of that fact. he had kept his spare key in the light fixture outside his door for many years. it wasn't really a question of how milan had gotten in. the question he wanted to know was why?
milan was someone who had always kept ryan guessing. there was something so very intriguing about her. here she was now standing in his apartment after barely speaking for two years. he wasn't really one to follow gossip, but he was rather curious if what the mad hatter had said was true. did milan still have all the same feelings that they had many years ago.

Milan was lucky she had gone silent when all of a sudden Ryan appeared into the bedroom, looking like he had come out of the shower. She really should get the whole calling beforehand thing down because of the fact that he might be taking a shower at the time and his room wasn't spruced up for her at all? Truthfully Millie didn't care about the mess, she was wanting to see him more. She just never pictured a first meeting being like this, though she liked surprising people like this sometimes. It was easier than something planned.
A smile grew on her face as she held her hand over her mouth as Ryan was looking on his shelves for the book and spoke into the phone again. "actually mil, it's seemed to have gone miss-" she held still as he cut himself off and turned around in the middle of his sentence and closed her phone, looking back at him grinning and allowing a moment between the two of them. She suddenly remembered his book and held it up for him to see she had it. "Missing something?" she teased and stepped forward as he spoke. you know, I always knew you were a creeper." she chuckled lightly at this. "Please, we all have known how to get in here for years, don't flatter your ego now," she teased, knowing that he hadnt really gotten an ego at this, this game was just amusing him like it always had.
Her breath caught when he pulled her into a hug and closed her eyes as she hugged him back. How many times had she wished for a moment like this between the two of them? you have no idea how much I've missed you." At this she hugged him tightly, resting her head on his shoulders. She always loved how moments like this with Ryan made her feel safe from the rest of the world out there. This time it wasnt any different. Ryan surely had to have read the mad hatter blog thing by now, so she was a little surprised at this reaction. Even though Milan had come over hoping to talk everything over with him, she didn't deserve this type of hello. Not after disappearing on him for two years without getting told why and then hearing about them first through the blog. "Maybe I have a tiny bit of an idea because I've missed you more," she admitted softly.
Ryan was the one person who Milan knew she could share everything with, though probably minusing the whole still loving him thing. She always trusted him with stuff outside of Brynne, and now that the story was out in a small small summary, he deserved details. But where first? she gazed up into his eyes, while wondering. "I'm sorry Ryan.... you really should hate me right now, I wouldn't blame you. I deserve that for leaving without a goodbye and the other things." As much as this were the truth, Millie didn't know what she'd do if he hated her. He was her first love and she wanted things to be fixed between the two of them. Even if it would be hard trying.
Notes: *YAWN* sorry this isnt as good as the other... loved your response! word count no idea

missing something? there was something about milan standing there with the book that reminded him of the old days. his grin couldn't possibly get any bigger. he couldn't help but to feel the remains of those old feelings that were between them. that's how it always was with ex's wasn't it? you were supposed to have those reminiscent moments with them on occasion. there was nothing wrong with that, was there? he laughed as he stepped forward, calling her a creeper. please, we all have known how to get in here for years, don't flatter your ego now. it was true. every single one of their friends knew how to sneak into his apartment. he had kept his spare key in the same place for so many years. he was actually kind of surprised that none of his friends had come and tped his room or something weird like that. "oh by the way, sorry for my um.. current appearance, and the messy room... most friends give me some warning, but i know that's not your style." he said glancing down at the floor of his bedroom, making sure it wasn't too terribly cluttered. the last part of what he said, about warning not being her style, was a joke. he hoped it wouldn't upset her. after all, everyone had been giving her crap about her sudden leave, and the stupid gossip column had only made it worse. ryan wanted to be there for her, not make it worse.
he then pulled her into a hug as his greeting, expressing how much he had missed her. it was true. he had often thought of her when she was gone. after all, every time he read the novel that he had started he was reminded of her. not only because she was the one who had encouraged the writing of it, but also because she was one of the main topics in it. he held her tightly for quite a few moments, not wanting to let go of the girl he had let get away. maybe i have a tiny bit of an idea because i've missed you more. he smiled at this. it was good to know that she had missed him. "i don't think that's possible." he muttered softly before pulling away from their hug. he did however keep one of his arms hanging across her shoulder as he he gazed down at her, listening to what she had to say.
i'm sorry ryan.... you really should hate me right now, i wouldn't blame you. i deserve that for leaving without a goodbye and the other things. ryan listened to this, but did not agree with a word of it. her leaving had been hard on him, and he would have preferred a good-bye, but he understood why she didn't. ryan hated good-bye's more than anything, and he avoided them at all costs. it probably would have been much to hard for milan to say good-bye to her closest friends, especially with all of the other stuff that had been going on in her life. ryan would have normally been a little more ticked off by something like this, but milan was always a soft spot to him. he couldn't remember a time when he was ever actually mad at her. "mil, i'm not mad at you. i don't hate you." he began. "i don't think it's possible for me to hate you." he then figured he should explain as to why he wasn't mad about anything. "you leaving wasn't something i enjoyed, but with everything that was going on i.. i understand why... and finding out about all of this through the stupid gossip blog wasn't ideal, but that's your private life." he said. he respected the fact that people had secrets. he couldn't blame her for keeping a secret anyways. he knew as well as she that no matter when harry and bee were told there would have been drama. "to be honest, i don't understand why brynne was mad at you. i mean she has every right to be mad at you for leaving, but the other stuff? she caused her own problems mil, and i don't think you should worry about people hating you. i know deep down that no matter what happens both bee and harry love you, and they love each other." it was true. no matter what happened between the four of them, they would all be there for each other when the time came. it may take a hell of a long time to fix things, but they all had too much history to just throw it away over something that had happened years ago. ryan wasn't thrilled to find those things out through the gossip blog either, but he didn't have a right to be mad about it, and in his opinion neither did bee. after ryan and milan had broken up, ryan went to brynne to get over milan, and brynne went to ryan to get over harrison. apparently milan and harrison went to each other to get over them. it was kind of ironic how it all happened, but either way, they were even. no one had a right to be mad at each other.
ryan ran his hand lightly through her soft hair, hoping to soothe her worries a bit. it had always been, for the most part, ryan's job to calm milan down. he had always been understanding for her, which was kind of rare considering ryan usually got a little more worked up over things. when it came to milan, he always had a weird habit of taking her side, even when she was wrong, because somehow even if she was wrong something about it made her completely right at the same time. she had been his first great love. no matter how many years went by, he was still compelled to her. he let a small smile cross his lips as he gazed down at her. he had that warm, it'll be okay look on his face as he hugged her lightly with the arm he had still around her shoulders.

Oh, by the way, sorry for my um… current appearance, and the messy room… most friends give me some warning, but I know that’s not your style. Milan couldn’t help but roll her eyes at the teasing sarcasm in the end. The smile she smiled back at him showed she knew he was joking around. One of the things Milan missed about Ryan was that even at a time he wasn’t supposed to, he had a joke and had a knack for making people to try to feel better. ”Apology accepted, though you know with you I never really got the warning thing down.” It was true, though now that he was somebody else’s boyfriend, she might start considering the warning thing first because she didn’t want to stumble in on a make out session between him and Callie or anything. The thought alone was enough to make her close her eyes, feeling queasy inwardly, but brushed it off. If she was going to try this friend thing with him again, she was going to have to try to make an effort to get along with the girl because Ryan had always been important to her in her life, and he was too important to lose now. But even though she was thinking that the two were now friends, her heart wasn’t feeling it as she smiled up at him. The same old feelings were still there, but that was to be expected, especially since the last time they had been together alone was when they were together. Regardless, the joke hadn’t upset her at all, in fact it made her feel better, she was still trying to forget about the stupid gossip blog.
After she admitted she probably missed him more, Ryan held her tightly and muttered softly that he didn’t think it was possible. She closed her eyes, thinking that it was so good to finally hear his voice close like this after a long time. She wanted to argue again that it was true, but the moment was too precious for some silly argument. Plus he didn’t know how she still felt about him, and Millie wasn’t sure how to tell him yet. She lifted her head up as he pulled away from the hug, but smiled softly when he still kept an arm around her shoulder, staring down at her as she then continued to speak. She grew silent when she was done. Even as she told Ryan he should hate her completely then, she knew that they both knew that would be impossible, regardless of how hard her leaving had been then. He always had a soft spot for her, which was something she had ignored while they were friends for years until it became obvious to her that she had feelings for him. The two grew up together the same way Brynne and Harry did and were always found with each other and were partner in crimes pretty much. The time Milan finally realized her feelings for Ry was when a girl should have her first boyfriend, at the start of middle school. The two finally got together and lasted until the start of senior year, though they probably always only had eyes for the other even back in the sandbox days. Even when Mil had been with another boy.
So when Ryan said that he wasn’t mad at her and that he didn’t hate her, she wasn’t surprised. Her heart softened when he said that he didn’t think it would be possible for him to ever hate her. She continued to gaze up at him as he spoke. you leaving wasn’t something I enjoyed, but with everything that was going on I..I understand why… and finding out about all this through the supid gossip blog wasn’t ideal, but that’s your private life. Millie closed her eyes at this. That was one of the things that she was now torturing herself with, the mistake of not telling the group about her problems at all. She had been wrong to do that, but Ryan was saying she wasn’t now. She let a heavy sigh escape her lips as he continued to speak, though her thoughts were whirling still. Mil nodded at the last part of his sentence, knowing that Ryan was right about that. It may not feel like it now, but they did love her, and she did love them… and they still loved each other. She buried her head in his shoulder while he ran a hand through her hair softly. This soothed her a lot, but since he was being so great about everything, Milan felt horribly guilty for all of the secrets in the first place. Her heart melted as he smiled and a warm it’ll be ok. That look got to her along with the hug he gave her and she gazed up at him. ”I want to tell you everything Ry… everything. I don’t want to hide anymore.” The gossip blog had already given a pretty good summary of what had happened, but it wasn’t her version of what happened still. Spilling everything would make things easier to fix… Ryan usually caused this affect on her, even if nobody else knew something about her, she always broke to tell him like this. She didn’t know if that would be completely true this time or not though.
word count: almost 900 Notes: I hope you are ok with the relationship history I had between them from the younger years... I'll post elsewhere later for bee/harry -hugs tisse-
