Harry and Brynne continued to eat their meal in silence on the day of Harrison Oliver Roberts birthday. If you asked Harry, he would say that it was his fault why this started in the first place, he was terrible with keeping secrets from anybody, especially Bee. It didn’t help that Bee was his best friend and girlfriend, but he didn’t want the surprise to be ruin her. What was the surprise? Well he’ll get to that a bit later. Because Harry can’t really keep a secret for too long, a few days ago he started avoiding Brynne, or having really weird conversations with her if he happened to be in the city chat at the same time. She kept wanting to know why he was being so weird, but Harry never elaborated on it. Somebody always came in, or he made some stupid excuse up to go. Then the night before she wanted to talk in person, and Harry tried to come up with a way not to go, but nothing worked, she wouldn’t hear of his excuses then.
So he grudgingly had gone over to her place to talk, and there he had immediately felt guilty, and it was harder to try to hide his secret. Because of it, he pushed her away, and that caused her to question him. When the issue got to trust, Harry had snapped. Especially when she accused the worst of him. He admitted he wasn’t exactly a golden medal of honor from his past, but he expected her to not doubt him in times like these. Then the fight just seemed to have grown from there and it was suggested that maybe the two just didn’t know who the other was if they didn’t like that side of them. Then Harry had to say you don’t trust me? Well I don’t trust you! The fight finally ended with the two glaring at each other and then Brynne stormed off to her room and slammed the door shut, signaling Harry that it was time for him to leave.
And he left, reluctantly. The reason behind all of this was the birthday present Harry had gotten for Brynne this year. He wanted this year to be more special for them for celebrating their birthdays since they had missed their recent ones, and he didn’t want anything to ruin it. Brynne could be sneaky if she wanted to be, so he worked hard to throw her off the path aways by his moods. He bought an engagement ring for her for her birthday, and planned on taking her to her favorite nice Chinese restaurant to ask her. But that would happen on his birthday, and if the schedule was right, a few moments from now.
Harry glanced while he was almost through with eating, only to catch brynne glaring at him from across the table. If looks could kill, he would be dead right now. His heart softened and he wanted to reach his hand over to place it on hers, letting her know how sorry he was, but all he could do was sigh and look back down at his plate, which had suddenly started looking unappetizing due to that and nerves. A day ago he had come here to place their reservations, and an idea came to him. He suddenly wanted to do the proposal in an original way, rather than letting the ring just sit inside a blue tiffany’s box wrapped up with a bow. So he got together with the owner of the store to see if he could help him out a little. Once the owner heard how in love Harry was with the girl he was wanting to propose to, he was more than willing to pull an extra few ropes for him for no charge at all, which Harry had said he could name it.
Harry glanced at his watch and eyed the hostess stand and nodded at the hostess stand, raising his hand a little to let her know he was ready for their check. She immediately nodded and disappeared, and Harry turned to Brynne. He opened his mouth to say something, but he didn’t know quite what to say yet, so he closed it. A few moments later, the hostess came with the check and their fortune cookies and Harry gave a slight smile of thanks, trying to act normal. The hostess nodded towards the fortune cookie near him, and he immediately knew what she was talking about. Brynne was getting ready to go as she walked away, but he immediately straightened up, and placed a hand on her hand stopping her. ”We should read our fortunes first, like we always do,” He suggested lightly, knowing she wouldn’t really walk away without doing this old tradition first. Her hand looked like it was about to reach for one of the other fortune cookies, but as a new song came on, Harry pushed the one near him towards her. ”You should open this one, it might be worth more… it was near me after all,” He joked, giving her an almost innocent Harry like grin that would hopefully lighten her mood. The new song that had come on was one of the last ones they had danced to at their junior year homecoming, I’ll be by Edwin Mccain. He thought it would be perfect for the moment, and the strings that had started playing didn’t cause him one bit of doubt. He waited for her to notice this bit of detail, ignoring his own fortune cookie and the check that laid sitting in front of him.

---------------------------- and rain falls angry on the tin roof, as we lie awake in my bed and you're my survival, you're my living proof my love is alive and not dead and tell me that we belong together and dress it up with the trappings of love i'll be captivated, i'll hang from your lips instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above ---------------------------- brynne had only agreed to dinner because well, they had planned it ahead of time and it was tradition. no matter how angry she was at harry, she couldn't abandon their yearly tradition of going to celebrate their birthdays with chinese food at their favorite restaurant. the dinner that they were celebrating over however, was not as it had been in the past. this dinner was completely silent, due to the fact that they had been in a rather horrible fight only a few days ago. it had all started because harry had been acting so weird. she was still curious as to what had made him start this, but she gave up trying to find out after they had gotten into their argument about trust.
the had been having little arguments all week, but his comment about not trusting her was what set her off. she wasn't sure why she had been so worked up about everything, it might've just been the mood swings that came along with being pregnant. either way, she was pissed off. she hadn't been this mad at harry in a very long time. with the way things had been going, she had even considered giving up on this little "birthday celebration" thing that she was now sitting at. sure it was tradition, but a whole meal sitting in silence? she knew it was partially her own fault for distrusting him. her own fault for staying silent too, but he wasn't helping either. he was just as much to blame. besides, how could he really blame her for not trusting him at that point. he had been acting so weird. he had been avoiding her in the chat. he had made lousy excuses. he was hiding something, and well normally hiding things weren't a good thing. bee couldn't help that she thought of bad things. she hadn't had the best record when it came to relationships, so surely there was room to consider the worst, even if it was harry, the person she trusted more than anyone, even herself.
she was so distracted by being mad at him, that she forgot they were at the restaurant to celebrate their birthdays. by the time he had asked for the check, she was ready to walk out of the restaurant without even giving him his gift. it was kind of lame anyways. it was hard to shop for harry, he kind of already had everything, so she kept to the more meaningful things. though, with the way things had been going she wasn't even sure if the gift would even matter. she glanced down at her bag where the gift was, debating on if she should even give it to him. it could wait until later, when they had patched things up, if they patched things up. she stood up, getting ready to leave when the hostess came to bring the check. she was a little surprised when harry's hand came to hers, to stop her from getting ready to go.
she raised her eyebrows and emitted a bit of a sigh, in a sort of 'what harry?' kind of way. we should read our fortunes first, like we always do, she nodded. once again, it was tradition. they always read their fortune cookies together. they had gotten chinese on their birthday celebration for years now, and year after year they would break their fortune cookies and read each other their fortunes. she was about to grab one of the cookies, when he passed one to her. you should open this one, it might be worth more… it was near me after all,” bee cracked a bit of a smile at this. that was a very normal harry comment, and well she couldn't really stay mad at that. she rolled her eyes in a normal bee fashion though, the way she would to any egotistical comment harry would make.
she took the fortune cookie in her hands, about to crack it open when a song came on. i'll be by edwin mccain. it was the song that she and harry had danced to at their junior year homecoming. a smile came to her face without her really realizing it. she shrugged the song off, not bothering to really think about it as she cracked open the fortune cookie. instead of merely just finding a fortune inside that cookie, a ring fell out. she looked at it a moment as if baffled, also looking over the fortune that was with it. will you marry me? her jaw dropped, unable to speak. it all made sense now. her reaction probably looked rather silly. there she was sitting there not speaking, just staring at what had fallen from the fortune cookie. her thoughts were running wild.
a little bit of guilt even hit her. she had thought the worst of him, and all he was doing was trying to hide the most amazing birthday present one person could ever give. this was a moment that most girls imagined from when they were very little. this moment beat out all the possible ways bee could have ever thought up on how it would be. she had imagined this moment between them when she was younger, but had never really thought too much on it later. she never really was the commitment kind of girl, but when it came to harry, everything was different. she had said before she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him, and she meant it. she finally moved her gaze from the ring and the fortune and up at harry. she couldn't even imagine how her face looked right now. she couldn't even describe what she was feeling. it was sheer joy and excitement and a million other feelings. she made eye contact with him for the first time all dinner, and at this moment her eyes were a little watery. bee hated to be one of those girls who cried at things, but this was one of those moments where it just didn't matter. these were tears of happiness, and she couldn't help it.

Harry couldn’t believe how well this moment was all turning out, it couldn’t have gone better than any other way. Everything just fell in place for this like he had hoped. He hated how they fought along the way, and he wanted to desperately take away his comment that he didn’t trust her. He trusted her more than any other person, and she was the only girl ever in his life he wanted to be this committed to. And when she had told him that she was in love with him too and that she wanted to spend her life with him, he knew the time for him to ask her was coming. And that time was then. Harry glanced up at Brynne, wearing a smile as she rolled her eyes in a typical brynne like manner when he was being egoistical. He felt almost like a kid as his smile grew mischievous and secretive, like a kid that couldn’t wait to give their best friend their present on Christmas morning. The smile however shortly grew into a serious expression as he watched Brynne open her own fortune cookie and stare at it in shock. The song continued to play above and the look on Brynne’s face seemed to say everything in her mind to Harry then. The moment had been exactly played out right, the fight had helped fool her away from any sort of guessing, and she probably didn’t even have a clue this was happening. Harry wished he could’ve been more conversationalists during the dinner, but he had been nervous, too nervous about spilling, and nervous about this moment… and the looks he caught Bee giving him hadn’t helped. Tears began falling as the moment became more real to Brynne, and Harry slowly rose from his chair, his heart softening as it always did when Brynne cried. His normal role here was to just take her in his arms and let her know everything would be all right and asked if he had to kill the person that made her cry. But this time his role was different. He headed over to her and his eyes wore the same calming expression he wore as he searched eyes for the answer she usually gave him then. The only thing different that time was that he lowered to his knee, catching other customers attentions now. He had waited for the right moment, and as he held her hands, he glanced up at her. He couldn’t remember a more serious moment than this at the moment, and this was pretty serious. He had planned out every detail, but he hadn’t plan on the speech… he had been so busy trying to avoid her lately or fighting that no effort was put into this moment. So he waited for the right words to come to him. ”Brynne Elizabeth Golightly,” he started seriously and continued. ”I’m in love with you… I always have and I always will be. The first time I told you this was a few months ago, you warned me about you, and how being with you at one point might make me unhappy because you make mistakes, but that was something I already knew at that point. There is no other girl for me and my heart stopped searching a long time ago. Being with you makes me happy, and its obvious there is nobody else out there for me that deserves me more than you. You deserve me, and you will always be worthy of me. You are the only one I want.” Harry paused to think of his words again. ”Will you marry me?” He finished, still holding her gaze. bee watched as he stepped towards her, getting down on one knee. with each step her grin grew more and more, and she was doing that almost laughing, but crying in excitement thing that happened in most those chick flick movies. she could hardly breathe as he began his speech. brynne elizabeth golightly. i’m in love with you… i always have and i always will be. the first time I told you this a few months ago, you warned me about you, and how being with you at one point might make me unhappy because you make mistakes, but that was something i already knew at that point. there is no other girl for me and my heart stopped searching a long time ago. being with you makes me happy, and its obvious there is nobody else out there for me that deserves me more than you. you deserve me, and you will always be worthy of me. you are the only one i want. will you marry me? bee had always been a bit on the emotional side, but she wasn't usually one to cry for happy things. her little bit of tears had turned into practically bawling. she hadn't been prepared for this. she had no clue harry was going to do this. she had gone from being mad at him, to being completely shocked. sure, once again it probably had to do with the damn hormones, but she was a bit hysteric from it. though, of course, it was all in a good way.
bee stopped her thoughts a moment to take a deep breath, keeping her gaze on him. she needed a moment to regain her composure before she could answer him. it was rather obvious what her answer was, though actually getting words out of her mouth at this point was much harder than looked. "yes.. harry.. yes i will marry you." she finally let the words fall from her tongue. with that she threw her arms around him, hugging him tightly to her before placing a kiss on his lips. she was engaged to harrison. she was engaged to the little boy next door that she had known since birth. she was engaged to her elementary/middle/high school sweetheart. she was engaged to the one guy she had always loved, and the only guy that ever made her think about her future. he was the only guy that she had ever wanted to spend the rest of her life with. he was the only guy that would make her want to commit. he was the only guy that she would be truly happy with. "i love you." bee said as she pulled away from the kiss, taking this moment to just stare into his eyes. she laughed softly wiping a bit of those leftover tears from her eyes. this truly was the start of her fairytale ending.

Harry wished he could've seen the expression on his face when Brynne agreed to marrying him, all he knew was that he pretty much lighted up like how a Christmas tree would light up when somebody turns it on and felt joy spread throughout him as he stood up when Bee hugged him tightly to her. He wrapped his arms around her at the same time, and kissed her deeply when she kissed him. The moment seem to last for forever, but then the two pulled away and looked into each others eyes. Harry then realized that the restaurant had made a reaction, the workers from the back had come up front to watch them, as well as the other waitresses and hosts, and every customer was also watching them. A few ladies had their hands to their hearts, and one little man had tsked and looked up at the cealing muttering young love, so precious. This caused Harry to grin and he glanced back down at Brynne, sliding his hands into hers. He wanted to say something, anything, but all he could do was smile like an idiot, matching a grin like hers. This was his birthday present for her, but he couldn't help but feel that it was his own as well. Their host walked over to them, beaming and took the check away. "Your meal is on us tonight," she said graciously, backing away quickly. Harry normally would've insisted at this, but all he could do was thank her before laughing softly and glance towards the ground with his mind spinning. He was now engaged to Brynne Elizabeth Golightly, his childhood love, his high school sweetheart, and the only girl he had ever really and truely been in love with. It's impossible to find true love at a young age and he once heard that that only happened rarely. He was glad that he had that with Brynne. He suddenly remembered that wasn't all to the evening and knew that he had to speak. He offered her his arm, still grining his head off. "Your carriage awaits, ma'dam" he informed her cheesily, thinking that he could've said anything else but these words, but no, these had to be the first ones he said after proposed. The two had walked there but only because he had a special ride planned for them after the dinner, taking the risk of hoping that everything would go smoothly, and it had. ---------------------------- and rain falls angry on the tin roof, as we lie awake in my bed and you're my survival, you're my living proof my love is alive and not dead and tell me that we belong together and dress it up with the trappings of love i'll be captivated, i'll hang from your lips instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above ---------------------------- the look on harrison's face was something that bee knew she wanted to remember forever. someone should have seriously photographed this moment. her smile grew as his face lit up, then the met in a very tight embrace. from the moment her arms went around him, she knew she wasn't going to want to let go. their lips met in a very passionate kiss that seemed to last forever. when they did pull away, she laughed a little. their own little private world melted away and she realized that people were watching. damn, first the airport now the chinese restaurant. if you asked her, they were damn good at making their special moments public.
bee looked around at the people, blushing lightly. one woman even gave her a little thumbs up. that only made her grin grow even larger, and started a little bit of laughter again. she turned back to harry when their hostess took their check away. your meal is on us tonight. free food, a gorgeous engagement ring and the man she loved. this was one of the best damn birthdays she had ever had. bee was half-expecting her alarm clock to go off and realize it was all a dream or something. she knew better though, this was too real, too amazing for one dream.
her attention returned fully to harrison when he offered her his arm. Your carriage awaits, ma'dam. she raised her eyebrows at this before taking his arm. "thank you, kind sir."she said giggling. harry had planned an extravagant evening hadnt he? bee was surprised, but not at the same time. it was harry after all, and when he wanted he could be the most romantic guy ever. she kind of felt awful now for the whole fight they had while he was trying to hide all this. he was making these amazing plans, and she was thinking the worst of him. she trusted harry more than herself, but when it came to relationships bee couldn't help but to doubt. after all, her mother hadn't exactly made it easy for her to understand love. all the word "love" had meant when she was younger was that bee was getting a new step-dad and it would last a year or two tops, and that bee would be left with her nanny yet again. she had gotten a better concept of the word as she grew up, and learned what love actually felt like, but with all of her mother's failures when it came to love, bee couldn't help but to have her doubts.
tonight though, these extravagant things harry had planned, the only reason he had been acting so weird, they eliminated those doubts of hers and because of that she felt more in love than she ever had before. she would apologize to him later, for doubting him and all, but for now she didn't want to ruin the moment. she wanted to walk arm in arm outside to whatever "carriage" awaited them. she wasn't sure what to expect as they headed out of the restaurant. to be honest, she wasn't sure if he mean "carriage" literally or figuratively. he could have meant a literal carriage, or just a car or some other type of transportation. she suddenly just stopped wondering about it. jeeze bee, its a surprise. let surprises happen. she thought to herself letting her curiosity cease for once. they then headed out the door into the chilly night air. it was december after all, she didn't expect it to be warm. she looked up noticing white flakes of snow falling from the sky. she laughed and looked to harry, "you couldn't have possibly planned that..."she said with a grin. bee normally hated snow, it was a pain and it was cold, but when it came down like this in huge white beautiful flakes and it wasn't completely freezing, it was one of her favorite things. not to mention, it was completely romantic.

This end of the dinner couldn't have gone more perfectly, but really, there was one tiny little detail Harry didn't get down that he should've gotten down. A photographer to get the moment down. He could've had Ryan or Callie, or them both show up discreetly, but then that could've turned into a fiasco and they could've made the dinner all too suspicious. Callie loved Brynne too much to keep something from her, and Ryan well he was pretty much horrible with keeping secrets like that, though he did keep the one where he admitted his feelings for her. No, on second thought it was good he hadn't let those two in on this. They probably would've been a pair of laughing idiots they both loved. He smiled down at her as she laughed and they then started walking outside. thank you kind sir, she said politely, giggling as she took his arm he offered her. The look harry gave her probably showed to anybody else watching that his eyes and attention were all about on her that night. Even if it had been damn hard not doing that before.
When they walked outside, he glanced up as something cold had hit his head, and saw that it was snowing, not the little whimpy snowflakes that didn't stick but the big ones that actually did stick that would make the ground soon be covered with pretty white snow if it continued on for hours. You couldn't possibly have planned that, Bee said to him, and Harry stuffed his hands into his pockets and grinned a bit sheepishly and gave a half shrug. "Well, you know I did ask Him up there if He could pull an extra few extra miracles for tonight," he admitted, grinning his innocent like grin. Harry wasn't at all religious, but mother nature had done him a favor that night. He knew that Brynne liked this sort of snow, and he had to admit it was quite pretty when nobody had stepped in it yet. "Guess he listened." The grin on his face couldn't possibly have gotten any bigger on his face then.
The mysterious carriage Harry had mentioned back at the restaurant was indeed a carriage being pulled by two horses and a driver that would drive them anywhere they wanted to go that night. He had to admit, it was pretty cheesy, but he wanted this night to be special for Brynne. He was so glad she had said yes when he asked her to marry him, though he didn't have many doubts that she would. Ok, he did because he was a guy and all guy did, but he had been more confident.
