overall • Before Jane Caroline Roberts were born, her mother was just starting her writing career, and her father was just working for the U.S. Army, though neither knew each other until two years before she was born. These two instantly fell in love as Ingrid covered a story on the army and happened to interview Cameron Roberts, Jane's dad. For two years the couple moved from base to base all around the states, and once he was even sent to France. There was no real war going on, since 9/11 hadn't happened yet and this was well after Desert Storm, but being in the Army itself was always a dangerous job to have for anybody. After being gone for six months at a time without seeing each other, and a really romantic date after he got back, lets just say Jane was conceived.
From the moment this beautiful brown haired blue eye girl was born, her parents fell in love with her and instantly spoiled her relentlessly. So why did they have to go and make another child when Jane was four years old? She thought they were quite happy with just her. Well when she was five years old, Felicity Aspen Roberts (Zooey Deschanel) was born, and Jane was jealous, at first. All little Felicity could do was cry, cry and cry, so Jane started avoiding the house as much as she could during the day and met the little boy at the corner of her street, Jake. He always mystified her, and after he let her hang out in his own private hide outs, they became to be fast friends. It was because of him why Jane never really had that whole ew boys have cooties phase. Though he had a best friend as well, so it was like she was one of the guys from then on out.
Then soon after Felicity Aspen Roberts was born, Cody Grayson Roberts was born and it was after then when the family had to move to seattle for a year due to her father needing to move there for work. Things were going smooth as far as Jane knew, but then they decided to stay there awhile longer, much to Jane's displeasure. She had only planned on staying away from her best friends for a year and then things would be normal between them when they got back, but that didn't happen then. When Jane turned twelve, it became obvious that Cameron and Ingrid Roberts weren't the same two people that fell in love all those years ago. They began fighting behind closed doors, and it turned out he had an affair with one of Ingrid's friends. The news was too hard for Ingrid to take. Her father wanted to work things out between the two but when Jane was fifteen she didn't want to try anymore, the pain still hurt her. So she packed the children up and moved to New York City again.
Jane was quite glad about moving back, though sad about the divorce. She tried keeping in contact with her father afterwards, but he never really wrote back or called, so the two drifted apart. It was when Jane was in high school when she came across her old friend Jake again. The two had both grown up and matured a lot, and Jane had immediately caught Jake's eyes. Jake had captured Janes heart right away, but she was stubborn set on keeping things the way they were back then and ignored all of the teasing and attention he liked to give her.
Jane graduated top of her class, though she used her life as an excuse to get thrown into school. Her mother never could stay in a single relationship after her father due to never trusting a man again. She remarried a few times, though those ended, and she is living off of the money from the divorces while she writes away on her laptop.
